What is an American Bully?
With so many types of Pitbulls it can be difficult to keep them all straight. One of the most popular types is the American Bully also known as Bully Pitbull.
These dogs have large heads and a stocky, muscular build.
Many breeders claim to offer Bully Pitbulls, but it is important to be sure to deal only with reputable and knowledgeable breeders.
Some try only to produce as many dogs as possible in order to make the most money.
They have no thought about what is best for the dogs and health problems are common among dogs that come from such bad breeders.
That is to say nothing of the horrible conditions the breeding dogs are kept in for their entire lives.
Instead, when looking for an American Bully Pitbull, find someone who has the needed experience to offer quality dogs.
While these dogs should be stocky, their legs should not be so short as to cause their stomach to touch the ground. That is just one example of the possible results of bad breeding.
There are three basic types of Bully Pitbulls.
These dogs are 20” or greater at the shoulder. This is the largest of the bullys, and these impressive looking dogs make quite a statement when they enter the room.
Standards are between 17” and 19” at the shoulder. This is still a good sized dog, but a bit smaller than the XL.
This name is a bit comical as applied to Bully Pitbulls. Some dogs that are considered pockets can actually fit in a shirt pocket, but that is not the case with these dogs. Measuring 17” or less at the shoulder, this dog will still make people take notice.
While you do not necessarily need to seek out a well-known bloodline in order to get a quality Bully Pitbull, some people prefer to do so. Some of the top names are Razor’s Edge, Gotti, Remyline, Monster G and Kingpin.
It is true that this type of Pitbull looks more intimidating than some other leaner and more agile types, but most people who get a Bully just want a companion dog, and they make wonderful pets. American Bullies, like all Pitbulls, are silly, good with kids and loyal to a fault.
This is not, however, the right dog for everyone. They are powerful and must be properly trained and socialized.
Some experts say that you must spend between 4 and 6 hours each week on training and exercising your Bully Pitbull.
Another thing to keep in mind is that these dogs do best as only pets. While it is possible to have other pets, it will take some extra care to keep everyone safe and happy.
